Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today (27 January) said that the main purpose of technology is not merely to boost productivity but to make people’s lives easier, create new opportunities and reduce inequality in society.

“The current interim government has taken various initiatives in the technology sector,” he said, adding that ordinances have been formulated to expand the country’s digital public infrastructure, establish a strong data governance framework and ensure cybersecurity, including the protection of personal data.

He made the remarks in a message issued marking the Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2026 (DDIExpo 2026), to be held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in the capital from 28 January.

With the theme ‘Bangladesh to the World’, the four-day expo is being jointly organised by the ICT Division, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) and will continue until 31 January.

Terming the theme timely and appropriate, Yunus said it reflects Bangladesh’s strong determination to transform itself from a technology-using nation into a producer, innovator and global partner.

“I am happy to know that the Information and Communication Technology Division is organising the ‘Digital Device and Innovation Expo-2026’ on 28-30 January. I congratulate all those concerned for taking this timely initiative,” he said.

The Chief Adviser (CA) said that alongside building a technology-enabled ecosystem, the government’s initiatives are helping create a safe, transparent and investment-friendly environment, thereby accelerating technology-based industrialisation and encouraging innovation.

These efforts, he said, will connect the creative potential of young entrepreneurs with the global market.

CA Yunus wished the overall success of all programmes of the DDIExpo 2026.
